The club played its entire history in the lower leagues of the Romanian football system, recently achieving some performances. At the end of the 2007-08 season of the Liga IV they promoted for the first time in history to the Liga III. The first season in the third league level of the Romanian football system, meant a reasonable performance, finishing 5th in the 2nd series.
In July 2009, it was announced by the Buftea mayor that CS Buftea sold its Liga II place to Săgeata Stejaru for 500.000 €.[1][2]
Săgeata had a resonable start in its first Liga II season in history, finishing 4th at the end of the first half of the championship. By the end of the season Săgeata targeted the first two places but failed to reach them and finished the championship 6th.
At the end of July 2010 the team moved from Stejaru to Năvodari and changed its name from Săgeata Stejaru to Săgeata Năvodari[3]. Thus continuing the football tradition in Năvodari after the dissolution of CS Năvodari, former Midia Năvodari.
Săgeata finished 2nd in the series the first half of the 2010–11 Liga II season, and was in the battle for the promotion with Ceahlăul Piatra Neamţ and Concordia Chiajna. By the end of the season Săgeata targeted the first two places but failed to reach them and finished the championship 3rd. But all was not lost, because FRF decided that a play-off round will be played between Voinţa Sibiu and Săgeata Năvodari for the last vacant place in the 2011–12 Liga I.[4]
Săgeata lost the play-off round against Voinţa Sibiu with aggregate score of 0-2.
Săgeata started fairly well the 2011–12 Liga II season, currently ranking 3rd in the table after 11 rounds, just 4 points behind FC Delta Tulcea. The battle for promotion will be fierce this season, with FC Viitorul Constanţa and FC Delta Tulcea as opponets.
